Character Information
*Character Name: Death the Kid
*Character Canon: Soul Eater
*Age: Fifteen
*Race: Shinigami
*Timeline/Pull Point: After the witch Medusa successfully unleashes the Kishin that had been imprisoned below Shibusen and Shinigami-sama summons the Death Scythes from around the world to plan their next course of action. The students of Shibusen begin training in duel arts, so that they can be better prepared for the battle to come.

*History:

Symmetry. That is my preferred aesthetic.

How could anyone accept an application from a half-witted god with three stripes only on the left side of his hair?! Oh the humanity! I deserve to die!

*Personality:

Death the Kid is exactly what one would expect from the son of a god; dignified, articulate, and well-mannered. A reserved, calm individual, he strives to achieve excellence in all of his endeavours. He is the very picture of order, believing that absolute balance is absolute perfection.

For one so young, he comes across as being quite mature, and takes his position as shinigami very seriously. He presents himself well - perhaps better than his father - and does his utmost to represent his station. While he does shoulder more responsibility than most, he would not think of abusing that authority; when he can, he tends to place himself on equal footing with his peers, electing to enroll in Shibusen and training alongside other One Star Meisters.

While he may come across as aloof, Kid becomes a loyal and compassionate friend to his fellow students. While he is considered to be on an entirely different power level than human Meisters, he never considers himself their better; it's likely this down to earth attitude helps him to fit in as well as he does. While he may be a god, he is still just a teenage boy - he treats his peers as his equals, more than happy to join in on a game of basketball or spend a relaxing afternoon hanging out.

His privileged upbringing has provided him with nearly unlimited access to resources, allowing him to become quite well-educated. Combined with his father's teaching, he has developed an extensive understanding of his world and its souls, and, perhaps more importantly, he has the intelligence to put that knowledge to good use. He is a lethal combination of observant and analytical, and he picks up on subtle hints that most would overlook.

... Alright, let's talk about symmetry.

Kid suffers from obsessive compulsive disorder, which manifests itself as a severe preoccupation with bilateral symmetry. This can affect everything from his choice in Weapons, to his home decor, to how he insists his partner styles her eyebrows. While it may seem superficial at first glance, this obsession is one of the defining aspects of his character; he doesn't just want these things to be balanced, he needs them to be.

Symmetry is a complete game changer when it comes to Kid's character. His usual reserved demeanour is dropped entirely when faced with perfect symmetry, replaced with unabashed gushing and admiration. It can completely distract him from the task at hand, no matter how crucial, as demonstrated during his chase with the Demon Sword. When the clouds shift to become symmetrical, he forgets entirely about following Crona, going so far as to rush off in the opposite direction to revel in the visual flawlessness of the moment. Along a similar vein, he is unable to attack an enemy who is physically symmetrical - in the past, he has allowed himself to be pummelled nearly to death, rather than risking destroying the aesthetic.

On the flipside, he absolutely loathes asymmetry. Asymmetry needs to be corrected, and once faced with it, he absolutely can't ignore it. In fact, he does not even need to be directly faced with it - even the idea that he may have forgotten to fold his toilet paper correctly or that one of his picture frames in his home may be off kilter is enough to drive him to distraction. He will obsess over the imperfection until something is done about it, and once he starts, there is no derailing him.

Unlike the unrestrained joy that symmetry brings, there are a few ways Kid will generally react to asymmetry. First, there is revulsion - that anything so hideous could exist is a crime against all that is right in the world, and it needs to stop being that way. Filled with rage, Kid will then destroy said object or enemy, eliminating its imbalance entirely. In the cases where his temper doesn't get the better of him, he will dwell and obsess further, until he can't think of anything else. Much like with symmetry, he lets himself become so consumed with the problem that he will let important missions or details fall to the wayside until the issue is resolved.

The final and probably most debilitating reaction to asymmetry is sudden, severe depression. There are some cases where Kid is simply unable to resolve a problem - such as the stripes in his hair - and when he is faced with these impossible situations, he will fall apart entirely. This stage generally involves him dissolving into a tearful, pitiful mess on the floor, where he will declare himself worthless and deserving of death. He can stress himself into being physically ill over his inability to fix the imperfection, bleeding from the mouth or eyes and even passing out entirely. It's typically only with the support and encouragement of his Weapons that he manages to overcome this state.

In the field, his hatred of asymmetry is just as much a hindrance as an asset. His rage can be channeled into an effective weapon against a physically uneven enemy, encouraging him all the more to eliminate them. On the other hand, he will actually go unarmed if he cannot wield both of his pistols; having only one Weapon would throw off his balance, which can put him at a severe disadvantage.

While not entirely related to symmetry, Kid has an extreme case of perfectionism that influences all that he does. This is, in all likelihood, a side effect of his disorder, as he bases much of his life and views around his own personal idea of perfection. He believes that the ideal world is one based on absolute balance, and hopes that when he ascends to the role of shinigami, he can realize this dream. As such, he holds himself to a similar standard - after all, it is only with personal balance that he could ever hope to achieve such a goal.

His need to do things correctly can greatly inhibit his efficiency in completing tasks, as he will spend ridiculous amounts of time doing things absolutely perfectly. Liz once states that Kid took an entire month to pluck her eyebrows - which is less surprising when one realizes that he probably made fully scaled and measured drawings beforehand, then spent minutes deliberating over exactly which hairs to pull. This makes his work fantastic and accurate - it just may take a few weeks longer than it should to accomplish.

*Powers/Abilities:

Kid is, quite literally, a god. His body's healing is rapidly accelerated, allowing him to recover in hours what should take weeks. He possesses a natural immunity to most chemicals, poisons and toxins, providing him protection against hazards ranging from UV rays to hair dye. On top of that, his tolerance for physical punishment is far beyond that of a normal human, making standard forms of torture mostly ineffective.

With that said, he's not indestructible. Throughout the series, he has been crushed, impaled, and has even had one of his arms severed. It is quite possible for him to die - it's just difficult to inflict lasting injury through normal means.

Kid has demonstrated himself to be a highly capable Meister and has considerable control over his own wavelength. He has chosen to partner himself with Liz and Patti Thompson, two sisters who transform into identical pistols, whom he wields with lethal efficiency. Unlike normal firearms, the Thompsons fire concentrated blasts of Kid's soul energy instead of bullets. His grip is somewhat unconventional, holding the guns upside down and pressing the triggers with his pinkies; this method does allow him to use them like tonfas for melee attacks. It is mentioned by Maka that his resonating with both Weapons simultaneous is in itself a difficult feat, one which he shows no difficulty in performing.

Several of Kid's most powerful abilities rely on the Thompsons and the resonance of their souls. The most common of these attacks, the Death Cannon, transforms his Weapons and the lower halves of his arms to deliver two powerful blasts against the opponent. These attacks are not possible with traditional weapons, making them mostly irrelevant in game. As it's highly unlikely that both Thompson sisters will be brought in, he will not be able to use of any of these skills - the Weapons in Soul Eater are all characters in their own right, making them ineligible for item drops.

Despite his slender build, Kid is actually quite athletic. Thanks to his inhuman physiology, he has increased speed and strength, making him a formidable opponent even when he is unarmed. He has been trained in Death God Martial Arts, which is based on a series of offensive and defensive 'stances'. It's a rare technique that utilizes precise, calculated movements, and it makes him an even match for the most skilled hand-to-hand fighters.

He can teleport over short distances (no more than twenty to thirty feet or so) and like his father, seems to have the ability to communicate and travel through mirrors. The latter is rarely used however, and can easily be blocked by magic and other means - outside of attempting to contact his father, it's highly unlikely Kid would ever bother trying to use the mirrors.

As souls play an important role in the Soul Eater universe, several of Kid's shinigami abilities are centered around them - for example, he is capable of storing bodiless souls without consuming them, which is impossible for a normal Meister or Weapon. As souls generally do not function the way they do in Soul Eater, most of these skills are not likely to be used. I would, however, ask for him to retain his Soul Perception ability. He is sensitive to soul wavelengths, and can often sense if a particularly powerful soul is nearby. While he can't see the same detail as Maka, Kid can, with concentrated effort, garner a very basic idea of defining characteristics, nature, or power levels from a person's soul. I would provide a permissions post for this ability, allowing other players to decide how much or how little Kid could notice about their characters. I leave it up to the discretion of the mods if this would work with sparks or not, given their alien nature.

The three white lines in Kid's hair do serve a purpose outside of wreaking havoc on his symmetry. They are canonly referred to as the 'Lines of Sanzu', and while still not fully explained, seem to function as a sign of Kid's power. The fact that they are incomplete represents that he has not fully awakened as a shinigami. As there can be only one reigning shinigami at any given time, they seem to be directly connected to his father. Each time a line connects, Shinigami-sama seems to experience a negative physical reaction and Kid is able to unlock more advanced abilities, implying that he is somehow drawing on his father's power. Regardless, as Shinigami-sama is not present and the generally overpowered nature of the unlocked abilities, they will be nullified in play. I do ask that the lines remain irremovable however, as he is unable to dye or disguise them in canon.

Kid is an accomplished skateboarder and frequently gets around using his flying skateboard, 'Beelzebub'. It is stored in some form of hammerspace when not in use, and due to its magical nature, does not require any sort of fuel. The board can be used to travel great distances and, landscape permitting, to perform various (perfectly executed!) tricks. It also seems to be able to move at very high speeds, as Kid once uses it to catch up to a runaway train.

In the end, it's important to note that while Kid may be a god of death, he is just a child. The extent of his potential has not been fully explored even in his own canon, but he still has a fair amount of growing to do.

*Inventory:

Kid only really came with the (symmetrical) clothes on his back! I'd like for him to still be able to summon his magical skateboard and his Death cloak, which... isn't anything magical, he just seems to have it on every once in a while because he feels like it.

*Starting Polarity: Feel free to choose for him.

*First Person Sample:

[Kid has taken some time to look back a bit at past communications before using the device himself, and is less than pleased with what he has scene. Thus far, nothing is familiar... The feel if this place was entirely wrong. The sun's face was completely hidden, even.

Still, unless he managed to contact his Honourable Father, he could only rely on the information gathered by the others residing there.
]

Excuse me.

It is my understanding that I am not the only one to find myself here by mistake. If it isn't too much trouble, I would ask if anyone has any further information on this city and our current situation.

Also, if anyone has seen two girls, answering to Patti and Liz Thompson - one is approximately five and two thirds of an inch taller than the other, and the shorter of the pair is two cup sizes larger in the bust. Patti has chin-length blonde hair, blue eyes-

[...

How had he not seen it before? This building... the decor... It was completely lop-sided. Everything about it was off. How could they stand it?

In an instant, the cool, calm demeanour was dropped, his voice getting louder and more distressed as he continued.
]

... W-What is this place? Some sort of Disorganized Continent? This entire room is-!

[Whatever he had intended to rave about was cut off as the device was discarded. Clearly, the First Forged need help with their decorating skills - which Kid will happily provide. With or without their blessing.]

*Third Person Sample:

There was a soft click as the measuring tape snapped back into its casing, punctuated by a content sigh.

Perfection.

Even now, Kid could not fathom how one person could bring about so much chaos in such a short span of time. Surely Liz knew better by now, but Patti... She had never quite grasped the importance of organization, or more significantly, symmetry.

Earlier that afternoon, Liz had asked to borrow one of his many texts to study for their upcoming exam - which, of course, he supported whole-heartedly. It would not do for his Weapons to score below Black Star, and he would do what he could to support them in their academic endeavours.

That was before Patti had raided his perfectly aligned bookshelf.

... Formerly perfectly aligned bookshelf.

When he'd returned home that evening, the scene had been horrific. Books had fallen on their sides, no longer supported by their missing hardcover companion. Only three books on one side, but four on the other... Of course that wouldn't work! He had been sure to measure each book, planning their placement precisely before placing them on the shelf! Each had been compared and spine widths matched to perfection! Precise and neat!

It had taken hours, but... it was done.

He crossed his arms with a self-satisfied smile, taking a moment to admire his handiwork. He'd removed the offensive extra volume entirely and properly arranged the remaining texts. Everything was back to normal - no, back to symmetrical perfection.

"Kiiiiiid!"

N-No.

It all happened in slow motion.

Before the young shinigami could open his mouth, put voice to the words of protest that had caught up in his throat, the bubbly blonde had charged passed him with that maniacal, horrible laugh, her single book raised high. She flashed what he could only perceive as a malicious grin as she carelessly plopped the book down on the right side of the shelf, leaving it to lean on a lazy forty-two degree angle. He could only stare in wordless horror as it triggered its terrible domino effect, books toppling noisily to the floor.

“We’re finished with this one,” she declared proudly, ignorant of the giant hammer she had just taken to his beautiful, precisely measured world.

Kid sank to his knees, a hand on either side of his face.

Patti simply laughed, patting him lightly on the back before prancing off. How could she think that would be reassuring in the face of such a horrendous act?

How... How had it come to this?!

Final Notes: This application is technically for Kid based on the anime, though a few of the examples I have provided are from the manga. The character is the same in both, and I have taken him from before the two stories deviated - I have only used them as the manga did expand a bit more on Kid's abilities than the anime. I hope that's okay!
